Bengal lagging in RTI, admits state CIC

Kolkata : Till date, activists in Bengal had been complaining about the poor implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. But today, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) also admitted that the state is “quantitatively lagging behind many states”.
“I must admit that throughout the country West Bengal is the only state where there is only one RTI commissioner. Beyond which if I say anything, it would be criticising the government,” said CIC of West Bengal Arun Bhattacharjee on the sidelines of a function in Kolkata.
Though four years have passed since the Act — considered a powerful tool for the common citizens to question the government — came into force, the state government seems to have paid little attention to it.

CPM always counts RTI as their achievement but it is surprising that WB is behind from other states in the proper implementation of RTI Act.

RTI is just a election type fake promise our leaders given to public . Most of Information Commissioners interpret at their own way to various provisions of RTI Act. At least eminent media journalists should be added in the panel of Information Commissioners rather than retired Govt. officers

Its not only WB but even public authorities of Delhi State and Central Govenment are trying their best to kill the RTI by harrassing the information seekers with innovative ideas without understanding the cause of RTI so dont blame WB alone “Chirag Tale Anghera Hai To Kya Hua Door Daraj Me Roshni ki Tamanna Hamara Buniadi Adhikaar Hai”
